We have loved being back and have spent this week recapping our ACE Expectations – ‘Be Ready, Show Respect, Try Your Best’ and how we can maintain these high standards in and around school. We have also been recapping the British Values and discussing how important these are to our everyday lives.

We have had a super last week of the half term, with our lovely Bears treating us to their class assembly. We are very proud of them all and their developing confidence and ACE skills. School Council also held a fantastic whole school assembly on Monday, teaching us all about the British Value ‘Tolerance.’ Well done School Council!

We have had a super week of learning here at Astley! Our Sharks are having a fantastic time at Hilltop on their residential and are making so many memories together, whilst challenging themselves and enjoying a range of experiences; we can’t wait to hear more when they are back. Thank you to our Penguins this week for stepping up and taking on some important roles and responsibilities.

Happy European Day of Languages (EDoL)! Today we celebrate EDoL through the theme – ‘Languages open hearts and minds.’ Mr Dart has planned an exciting day exploring how languages can empower us and enable us to communicate and understand other cultures. Classes will spend all day completing various activities using a range of skills through art, music and more!

On Monday Miss Wreford spoke to the whole school about ‘British Values’ - Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance.

Our learning theme this week is ‘supportive’; I have been so impressed with the children and how they have been working together this week, helping each other and showing such ACE learning behaviours. All classes have settled in really well, which is so lovely to see.

A very warm welcome back to you all; to our existing families, to new families joining us part way through their school journey and to our lovely new Bears. I hope you all had a great summer! It is exciting to welcome Mrs Borley and Miss Edgeley to our teaching team, and Mrs Cleall to our support staff team.

Welcome back to the last half term of this academic year! We have a busy one lined up with lots of exciting events happening – please ensure you are familiar with the dates overleaf. We welcomed the Soul Space team into school this week and our classes had a fantastic experience immersing themselves in reflection and thought.

We had a fantastic Maths ACE Day on Monday! So many important skills were learnt and developed and lots of fun was had across the school. Thank you to those of you who joined us for Open Morning. Please see overleaf updates to the calendar, including when the mobile library van will be visiting Astley. This is a great chance for children to choose and share books, as well as the books they read in school.

Welcome back - we are really excited to be back for the start of the summer term! I hope you had a lovely Easter and spent some quality time with family and friends; we have loved hearing all about what the children got up to.

We have had a fantastic and very busy last week to round off the Spring Term. It has been great engaging with families in our Parents Evenings and we hope you have found these useful. Also, it was wonderful to see so many families joining us for our Forest School Open Sessions this week; we hope you enjoyed them, and the sunshine!

Thank you so much for your generous donations to Comic Relief last week – we raised an impressive £182.20! We are so proud of our Bears for their fantastic class assembly on Wednesday – a wonderful showcase of how they are growing and developing.

It is Red Nose Day today and we are proud to be raising money for Comic Relief; thank you in advance for your kind donations. There will be a red nose out in the playground morning and afternoon for you to put pennies on if you can.

It has been a busy week this week! We were delighted to invite our Governors into school on Tuesday to keep up to date and get involved in life at Astley. They really are an asset to the school, and the children were fantastic in welcoming them in and sharing their learning.

What a beautiful week! Not only has the sun been shining - we have had such a jam packed week full of activity, learning and enrichment. Turtles and Dolphins had a great cricket session on Tuesday, led by our friends at Active Education, and they rounded off the day with some pancake flipping fun!

We have had a great first week back and start to Spring Two. Turtles’ first swimming session was a success and we look forward to seeing their progress this half term. Clubs have been back in action and it has been great to see an array of extra curricular activity happening around school.

Well done to our Sharks for completing their Bikeability course over the past few weeks; they have showed fantastic cycling kills and road safety ability – we are proud of you all! They also performed a super class assembly on Wednesday, including a very special sign language performance.

It has been lovely to see the sun shining this week and lots of fantastic learning across the curriculum. A group of Penguins and Sharks went out on a Sports Event on Monday and had a great time, taking part in a variety of events.

Happy Friyay – it has been a super first full week back! Our Turtles and Dolphins loved their first Forest School sessions of the year and getting stuck in to their Science topics in the woods!

What a spectacularly festive fun week we have had! We are so incredibly proud of our Bears, Lions and Tigers for their performances of ‘Twinkly Nativity.’ The hard work, enthusiasm and joy on display was impressive; they did themselves so so proud. A big thank you to the great team of staff for their efforts and to our fantastic families.

We have kicked Christmas off in style this week with the return of Christmas Jumper Month! It is lovely to see the joy and sparkle around school. Our Bears had the best time at their school trip on Tuesday – they visited the Christmas Magic at Holkham and had a wonderful festive time.

Over the next couple of weeks Years 1-6 will be completing some new assessments in their classes; these assessments will give us clear steps of how to identify gaps in knowledge and help teachers to move the childrens’ learning on.

We started our week with a super Anti Bullying Exhibition in the hall on Monday afternoon; it was so lovely to see so many families sharing the childrens’ work and we are really proud of the fantastic range of work they produced. A big thank you to Miss Harrold for organising Anti Bullying Week.

It has been a truly ACE week! Anti-Bullying Week has been a fantastic opportunity to explore what bullying is, the many different forms it can take and what we can do to prevent it in and around our school. Every class has done some fantastic work related to this and we are really proud of their thoughtful and considered responses

Richard Bainbridge, Chef and Patron of Benedicts Restaurant, Norwich and BBC 2’s Great British Menu winner 2015, came to visit Astley Primary School today to lead sessions in baking.
