Ace Active Week Returns!!

As well as being encouraged to arrive and leave school each day being active, pupils at Astley had a whole five days of fun on ACE Active Week, taking part in Clockwork Sports, Yoga, House Team Rounders, Football and ‘Bling your Bike.’

All lessons during the week aimed to be active in some way and parents and carers were invited to support pupils during Sports Day and enjoy a picnic lunch on the field. Emphasis this year was placed on how taking part in sporting activities makes you feel –and the weather was truly amazing!

Miss Wreford, P.E. Subject Lead said, ‘It was so wonderful to see the return of ACE Active Week in school, properly! It is so important for our children to be able to experience participating in a wide range of sports as we are always trying to give our children ACE experiences to develop lifelong learners. We want all of our children to be Healthy, Happy and Active.

Active week not only provides opportunities for children to try different sports but it also helps children experience healthy competition in an environment where they feel safe and motivated. It has been amazing to see children thriving in an environment where they may usually feel out of their comfort zone and for them to understand being active is for EVERYONE as well as the importance and impact this has on both our physical and mental wellbeing.’

Headteacher, Mrs Goakes, said ‘Our ACE Active Week has been truly fantastic! It has been a week full of opportunity, and something for everyone. The children have showed incredible team spirit working with each other across the age groups - a great way to showcase our community - a massive thank you to everyone involved.’

Claire Newstead and Karen Cornish (parents, governors and Friends of Astley) were part of a fantastic team of parent / carer support for Sports Day and said, "The atmosphere at Astley's ACE Sports Day was buzzing! The enthusiasm, effort and camaraderie the children displayed was truly Astley at its best. As we've seen before, great things are achieved when the school community works together and The Friends of Astley raised more than £275 selling refreshments at the event. This combined with the proceeds from our Summer Fiesta on 15th July will go towards the school's exciting new library project."

Chair of Governors, Dr Pickhaver, agreed that it was great to see so many parents, carers, grandparents and friends joining in the children’s’ fun, ‘Astley is truly a community school and it’s days like this that show what we provide for your children. Thank you for supporting us.’
